UPCOMING PROGRAMS:
Thursday 27 June (6pm- 7:30pm)
3/56 Cambridge St, Coorparoo
(Brisbane Dance Theatre)
These 90 minute workshops each focus on an element of technique that you can add to your 'performing tool-belt'. Different time, different location, different content each month! Like reading music for musicians, knowing the terminology and technique for dance steps can help to understand how movements fit together. We will also focus on how to perform those steps with style and stage presence.
NEXT PROGRAM:
TBA
In the 4 class series we will work on the building blocks of dance but with the luxury of accumulating skills over the set of classes and adding these into a longer piece of choreography.
Sign up for all four sessions or drop in according to your availability!
$50 for all four
$15 per session (pay on arrival)
Are you preparing for an audition, need help learning and perfecting that piece of choreography or feel like you could benefit from some one on one time to really hone your skills? Set up a private lesson today!

Options available for 30 or 45 min slots
or to share class and cost with a friend.
Norman Park, Brisbane
Our classes are tailor made for singers/actors and people who love participating in community theatre but feel like they're not nailing that movement call.
We focus on breaking down basic steps that are likely to be in an ensemble movement audition or show choreography in various styles of musical theatre.
We spend time perfecting the steps without getting bogged down in learning lengthy pieces of choreography and adding that style and stage presence!
This is a judgement free zone!
I will NOT make you perform anything by yourself. I am happy to give individual feedback if you'd like it...or not! I want to create a safe space for you to feel comfortable, to build your confidence and skills and actually enjoy dancing!
Bec has been performing in community theatre since she was 8 years old but she also has a wealth of experience on the other side of the panel; as a choreographer for theatre (Savoyards, Queensland Musical Theatre, Phoenix Ensemble and Beenleigh Theatre Group) and dance teacher (Bayside Dance, Claire Sander School of Dance, Caprice Dancing School, Stardom Studios, Kinderballet).
Bec trained in ballet, jazz and tap for over twenty years, completing exams to a high level and 2019 had the honour of learning from some of the top professionals in the industry at Broadway Dance Center in New York as part of the International Student Visa Program. Bec has also completed several professional performing contracts including two with Tokyo Disney Resort.
I have overheard people at auditions talking about how the movement portion gives them incredible anxiety. I have always felt great empathy for that feeling as I’ve felt it in different situations as I’m sure we all have. As an adult there is little opportunity to learn something new from the very beginning and I decided I wanted to develop a program where you can focus on the building blocks and not only choreography.
As there isn’t a wide variety of dance classes in Brisbane, existing classes often cater to a wide variety of skill levels and I’ve observed people feeling self conscious about their ability, reluctant to give things a go in front of more experienced dancers and teachers not having enough time to go slow and break things down.
There are so many little things that I do automatically (because I have learned dance over 20 years) that could be made explicit for new dancers but are not taught in other classes.
Such a fun class! Miss Bec teaches with kindness and an understanding that stylised movement doesn’t come naturally to everyone.

This was such a lovely way to get back into dance. Bec is patient, organized and bubbly and the class is easy to follow and a lot of fun! I love the way the class is structured, taking the fear out of simply changing direction through to technique and genre. 10/10 would recommend!

I LOVE this class so so darn much. Let's just say I feel like this dance class was made specifically for me... the instructor (Bec) is so so very lovely and brakes dance moves down that I can actually get and quite easily. I have always loved and had a passion for dance but unfortunately never really liked a dance class before. I was that person that would never fit in to that dance world and would always compare myself to others. I honestly thought there was no hope to finding a dance class where i can actually be my absolute self and not care what my capabilities are. I have finally found a dance class that is still quite technical but also in an inclusive and warming and happy/fun environment.

Bec and I have been doing weekly tap lessons for a year now, and by golly do I have so much more confidence walking into an audition room. Now when I get shown a piece of choreo in an audition or rehearsal room I not too infrequently say 'oh I know this step' as opposed to floundering around like a stunned mullet. Bec is gracious, patient and kind, which makes her a sublime teacher!
